Three college students held for 24 cases of robbery, loot & snatching

Meerut: The Meerut police on Sunday arrested three college-going students who were wanted in two dozen cases of robbery, loot and snatching. Based on the CCTV footage in Civil Lines, several teams of police were pressed into action. Pawar hails from Nagla Battu area under Civil Lines police station. The three youths were arrested under section 356 (criminal force during theft), 379 (theft), 392 (robbery) of the IPC and relevant sections of the Arms Act. Sharma and Verma are residents of Shashtri Nagar area under Nauchandi police station here.

Meerut: The Meerut police on Sunday arrested three college-going students who were wanted in two dozen cases of robbery, loot and snatching. Police recovered two country-made pistols, Rs 12,000 in cash and wallets from their possession.The trio, all of them pursuing bachelor’s degrees from city-based colleges, was held after they were spotted in CCTV footage during a recent incident of loot in Civil Lines area of the city.The accused were identified as Nitinjay Sharma (21), Suryansh Kumar Verma (20) and Mrinaal Pawar (22). Sharma and Verma are residents of Shashtri Nagar area under Nauchandi police station here. Pawar hails from Nagla Battu area under Civil Lines police station. According to police, the suspects had formed a gang to loot people after they felt that their financial needs could not be sustained through pocket money. They targeted residents in areas such as Nauchandi, Sadar Bazaar, Civil lines, Kotwali and TP Nagar.“The youths were a nuisance for us,” said Manzil Saini, senior superintendent of police (SSP).According to officers, the students came from middle-class families and were enrolled in prestigious colleges. Based on the CCTV footage in Civil Lines, several teams of police were pressed into action. They were held from Bhaisali roadways area by officers of the Sadar police station. The three youths were arrested under section 356 (criminal force during theft), 379 (theft), 392 (robbery) of the IPC and relevant sections of the Arms Act.
