While Bansal got this rank with a four-year coaching, which he started when he was in Class IX, Kansal achieved the feat without taking any coaching.“I have been preparing for IIT since Class IX and am extremely happy to have secured AIR 164. During my school days, I studied more for IIT and prepared for Class XII boards only when the exams were approaching. I plan to take up Computer Science engineering and then work in the same stream,” said a jubilant Bansal who passed class XII from Dewan Public School.A student of St Thomas English Medium, Kansal also topped his school in class XII with 97.25%.While Bansal secured rank four in B.Tech undergraduate course test of Uttar Pradesh State Entrance Examination 2018, which was conducted by Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University, Kansal ranked second in the same.Kansal said, “I focused on self-study and devoted at least eight hours a day to my preparation. When the exams were around the corner, I started studying for 12 hours a day. I plan to take up Computer Science engineering and then study Masters of Science (MS) from Ivy League. My mother has been my constant support and without her I wouldn’t have been able to score this much.”Other Meerut students who shined in the results were Rajat Sharma at AIR 575, Adarsh Jain at AIR 619, Sagar Sharma at AIR 642, Divyanshu Bhardwaj at AIR 697, Shrestha Mehta at AIR 843, among others.Meanwhile, Umesh Tyagi, director of Third Eye Classes said that Meerut students scored much better last year. “In 2017, city topper Purva Garg had scored AIR 96 and second rank among girls in IIT JEE results. The results have comparatively lowered this year. Each year, students of different calibers appear for the exam. Having said that, difference between rank 96 and 164 comes down to only two wrong questions. In this highly competitive exam, exam answer counts.”
