Meerut: Police in Saharanpur on Friday booked Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Kunwar Ammar Ahmad for projecting himself as director of UP Cooperative Agri-industrial Equipment Distribution Corporation — a position equivalent to a minister of state in the state government. Police said Ahmad even uploaded on his Facebook account a fake identity card and a fake appointment letter that he claimed was issued by UP principal secretary (corporations).According to police sources, Ahmad was a former Samajwadi Party youth wing president of Rampur assembly constituency. He had also organised a welcome programme for himself on Thursday and arrived with a battery of guards at the venue. However, not a single BJP leader attended the function.According to Saharanpur SSP Babloo Kumar, "Ahmad has been booked under sections 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 170 (whoever pretends to hold any particular office as a public servant, knowing that he does not hold such office) and others relevant sections of the IPC. Procedure for his arresting will be initiated soon."BJP west UP chief Ashwani Tyagi said, "Thorough checking was done before deciding action against the conman. The district administration had first checked with the principal secretary's (corporations) office if any such nomination was done."According to Ashok Tomar, a BJP leader who filed an FIR against Ahmad on Friday, "The entire local BJP leadership was shocked after learning about the appointment of Ahmad as director of UP Cooperative Agri-industrial Equipment Distribution Corporation. When a call was made to the office of the principal secretary (corporations), it denied that it had made any such appointment and termed the letter of appointment as fake. Following this, we lodged an FIR in the matter on Friday morning."
