BIJNOR: Uttar Pradesh is set to join likes of Maharashtra and West Bengal in having its own film university , which will soon come up in Bijnor . The information was revealed by district magistrate Atal Kumar Rai. He said, “This is the outcome of an MOU that the UP government signed with Royal Fame Production Company during Investor Summit – 2018, held in Lucknow in February this year.”The name of the university is yet to be decided. According to Rai, construction work is about to start at the campus and classes will start once that is complete. Rai said that the university will provide courses of “international standards” and will produce “high quality” actors, directors, writers, singers, music directors, etc.“A land has been earmarked for the construction of the building here in the district. It will be the first film university in the state. The Royal Fame production company will select students for the institute and will impart high-level training to them. The university will prove a boon for youths who dream of becoming actors, film writers, directors, producers etc. They will be taught by an expert Mumbai-based team. The syllabus is being put together for the students as per requirement,” said Rai. The university will be equipped with a club, a multiplex, a hostel, a shooting campus, print media and a channel in FM radio for the purpose of training students.The DM added that once the film university is set up, Bijnor will attract international tourists as well as celebrities. “After the film university comes up here in Bijnor, the district will emerge as an international tourism city and it will create new jobs for youths. It will also hold renewed appeal for the media as film stars are expected to frequent the university.”The foundation of the university was laid in February this year after Royal Fame Production Company signed an MoU with the state government to set up the film university.Some of the big names in Bollywood are from Uttar Pradesh, including Priyanka Chopra, Nawazuddin Siddiqui , Anushka Sharma and Amitabh Bachchan . Filmmaker, writer and music director Vishal Bhardwaj (of Omkara, Haider and Rangoon fame) was born in Chandpur, a village near Bijnor. Filmmaker Prakash Mehra (of Zanjeer, Namak Halaal fame), who died in 2009, was also from Bijnor.
