Meerut: Three youths, all in their late 20s, died on Thursday evening after inhaling poisonous gas emanating from a septic tank at a poultry food making unit in Alipur here. Joginder, Guddu and Ajay, all residents of Bijauli village of Meerut, came in contact with toxic gas when they stepped down to clean the tank filled with animal remains, which are used to make the fodder of chicken. The unit is situated on Hapur road in Kahrkhauda's Alipur.The victims were rushed to city’s Jagdamba hospital, where doctors declared them brought dead.The bodies have been sent for post mortem examination. Senior police official including superintendent of police (rural area) Rajesh Kumar rushed to be spot to take stock of the situation.The chicken fodder unit is owned by Rashid Akhlaq. Police has begun a probe in the incident even as it is yet to receive an official complaint following which an FIR will be lodged. “The mishap happened in a chicken fodder unit owned by Rashid Akhlaq. The deceased had stepped into a septic tank storing blood and animal remains used to make fodder. Investigation is underway and FIR will be lodged based on the complaint," SSP Rajesh Pandey said.
