Meerut: In a report prepared by the Mid-Day Meal Authority, it has come to the fore that three mid-day meal samples taken from UP government schools between April and December 2017 were ‘below norms’. Also, while no mid-day meal samples were collected from schools in Basti and Ghaziabad, the reports of the samples collected from Kanpur, Muzaffarnagar and Hapur were not provided to the basic education department. Out of these samples, three samples were found below norms – all in Faizabad, and thus a notice to the gram pradhan was issued in this matter. As many as 1,679 samples were collected, out of which three were found below norms — interestingly, all from Faizabad. This is even when strict instructions were given to take food samples of 10 schools every month in each district and ensure quality of food being distributed to the students.“It has come to fore that as many as 1,679 samples of mid-day meal food were collected from the schools in Uttar Pradesh.

The food items should be checked for adulterants and biological contamination,” read Samad.
