Meerut: Seven months after Shekhar Kumar and Monam fought against their families, and even police cases against them to get married, Kumar bashed in his wife’s head by hitting her repeatedly with an iron rod. The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday in Golabad locality of Meerut. Kumar was arrested and an FIR was filed against him based on the complaint of the deceased’s father.According to police sources, the couple would fight as Kumar was unemployed and had been forcing Monam to start earning. Senior sub inspector, Transport Nagar police station, Kailash Kumar said, “According to the post mortem report, the woman was smothered to death and not killed with an iron rod. She may have been hit with some sharp object later to make sure she had died. So, we cannot completely rule out a pre-meditated murder . Only investigations will reveal the rest.”While Kumar’s family remained tightlipped on the issue, Monam’s father, Jagmal Singh, who filed an FIR against Kumar and his four brothers for the murder, said, “We were against this marriage only because Shekhar was unemployed. He remained unemployed seven months into the marriage. They had repeated fights over it and he even expected my daughter to start earning for them.” Of the four booked, only Kumar has been taken into custody.
