MUZAFFARNAGAR: The battered body of a 20-year-old Dalit youth named Kapil, a resident of Muzaffarnagar’s Budhana area, was recovered from a field behind a local college on Saturday. Police have detained two suspects for questioning, but are yet to make an arrest in the case.Kapil had gone missing on Friday and a report regarding the same was lodged at the local police station. Officials said that the youth’s body had several injuries apparently inflicted by a blunt object and that it’s quite likely that after being assaulted, he was strangulated.Police have lodged an FIR in the matter under IPC section 302 (murder) and sections of the SC/ST Act.Kapil, who worked as a street vendor, went missing on Friday morning. According to the person who last saw him, Kapil was taken away by an unidentified person while he was busy selling fruits. On Saturday, his body was found from behind the DAV degree college.Police could not gather much evidence from the spot due to overnight rain. Budhana police station SHO Prabhakar Kenthura said, “We are investigating the case and will soon arrest the people behind the ghastly crime.”
