Waste is being dumped on the outskirts of the city and people of several villages are now up in arms against it.Courts have also reprimanded district administration for not doing enough for garbage disposal.On Tuesday, DC Meshram announced the new policy during a three-day ‘Composting Workshop’.“Ensuring cleanliness is everyone’s responsibility, and people must participate in the process of cleaning one’s city,” she said.Giving reference of Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016, municipal commissioner Manoj Chauhan said: “There are clear guidelines mentioned in the rule book pertaining to waste management.“Apart from 100kg criteria, even institutions like RWAs where more than 500 families reside, or hotels with more than 10 rooms or hospitals with more than 50 beds or schools with either bigger than 5,000 square feet premises or more than 500 students, will have to begin composting of their organic waste,” Chauhan said.He also said that by October 2, polythene bags will be banned completely.“Besides, 90 additional garbage collecting vehicles will be bought and deployed in 80 wards of the city,” he said.During the workshop, the method of composting was explained through power point presentations.Officials also laid focus on the MOHUA Swachhta App. A target of 2.5 lakh downloads of the application was also fixed.
