MEERUT: A head-on collision between a truck and a school van left half-a-dozen students of St. RC School injured on Tuesday. The accident was reported from Jhinjhana Road on Meerut-Karnal highway.According to police , the speeding truck brush past the van while it was on its way to drop students to their respective residences on Tuesday afternoon. Since the van driver, Lokesh Pal, and a girl student sustained severe injuries, they were referred to a higher medical facility.According to station house officer of Jhinjhana, Dinesh Kumar, “One eight-year-old class II student named Yashasvi Sharma is critical and has been sent to higher medical centre for treatment.”Several such accidents have taken place in the region in the recent past. On August 16, a dozen schoolchildren were injured when the van carrying them was hit by a heavy vehicle. The van driver lost control of the vehicle after which it overturned. The incident was reported in the morning hours from Baghpat district, where the van was taking children to school.Again on August 4, a brick-laden truck rammed into a school bus with 20 students in Baghpat. While one child died, six others sustained injuries. On July 5, a head-on collision between a school van and an MPV had injured nine schoolchildren in Kairana.
