Panchayat called by BKU today to honour farmers hurt during Kisan Yatra clash

Muzaffarnagar: Weeks after taking out a 200-km Kisan Yatra from Haridwar to Delhi, Bharatiya Kisan Union ( BKU ) has called for a panchayat on Sunday at Bhora Kalan village to discuss farmers’ issues like pending sugarcane dues, hike in power tariff and other matters. Earlier, government had agreed to keep tractors 10 or more years old from the purview of the NGT order banning them. This a a serious issue which needs to be discussed, Faruki added. However, no order to the effect has so far been issued by government, he added.Legal advisor of BKU Zaheer Faruki said, “Some 20-25 farmers were injured during the clash between police and all of them will be honoured on Sunday.”Mills owe over Rs 600 crore as sugarcanes dues to farmers in Muzaffarnagar alone. The farmers who bore the brunt of the lathicharge on UP-Delhi border will be honored at the panchayat.National president of BKU Naresh Tikait said, “Those who were injured during the protest will be honored and issues of farmers will be discussed.”According to a BKU source, farmers will decide on further strategy on issues like pending sugarcane dues and the ban on use of old diesel equipment.
