Bijnor: Though winter has already begun and the state government has allotted budget for procurement of students’ sweaters, the amount has not been transferred to the bank accounts of the teachers. In such circumstances, teachers are compelled to borrow from the market. There are around 2.25 lakh students studying in 2,500 government schools in the district. However, the education department has given directions to provide sweaters because of which teachers are in a fix. They are in the process of borrowing them from the market and have already come under heavy debt.Interestingly, the government has allotted a budget of Rs 1.62 crore to the district but it has not yet been transferred into the bank accounts of the teachers.Talking to TOI, city based teacher who did not wish to be named, said, “We are being forced to provide sweaters to the kids. The budget for the sweaters is yet to be transferred into the teacher’s bank accounts and we had to procure them from the market by borrowing. Each sweater costs Rs 200.”On being asked about the matter, BSA Mahesh Chandra claimed, “The government has allotted a budget of Rs 1.62 crore for this purpose. It will be transferred into the bank accounts of the teachers soon. It will take one or two days only. I have asked the teachers to borrow sweaters from the market and later, the payment will be made to the traders. The winter has set in. Therefore we are focusing on the distributions of sweaters to the students.”
