Notorious bike lifter arrested after encounter in Muzaffarnagar

Muzaffarnagar: A notorious motorcycle thief was arrested after a brief encounter with a police team on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday in Muzaffarnagar’s Khatauli region. He is a member of ‘Gang 26’, notorious for bike lifting.”“Now, police are trying to find his associate, Rizwan,” the SSP said. Soon, the criminal, Zakir, opened fire at the police team and tried to escape. The policemen also returned the fire after which Zakir was injured and arrested.Police have launched a search operation to nab the other man who was with Zakir.Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Muzaffarnagar Sudhir Kumar said: “Injured criminal is being treated in hospital. Police also seized a country-made pistol and a motorcycle from his possession.His accomplice managed to escape during the encounter, police said.The gun fight started when the police team signaled the criminals to stop their bike during a routine check.
