BKU announces 'kisan' rally from Jan 10, threatens to block NH 58

Muzaffarnagar: Three months after nearly 70,000 protesting farmers marching to the national capital were greeted with water cannons and police laticharge on Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border, Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) has announced a huge protest rally from January 10 and threatened to block the busy NH 58 (Delhi-Dehradun Highway) if the government does not fulfill their demands.BKU national spokesperson Rakesh Tikait said none of their demands, including relaxation of the order banning use of 10-year-old tractors, put across on October 2 had been met. Tikait said, "We will start a huge protest from January 10 on NH 58. Construction activities on the highway will also be stopped. We plan to paste info on government vehicles about how old these vehicles are. There are also some issue such as compensation to the farmers whose land was acquired for building the NH 58."The last 'Kisan Yatra', which was started from Haridwar on September 23, 2018, and was stopped at Delhi-UP Border on October 2, and police resorted to firing teargas shells, used water cannons and also lathicharged the farmers to disperse them, but some farmers somehow made it to the Kisan Ghat.
