Her mother, sleeping in the next room, woke up to the noise and paid the price of being a witness to the crime. 50-year-old Kamla Devi met the same fate as of her daughter.Hours after they went to sleep in the night of January 3, the bodies of mother-daughter duo were found lying stuffed in sacks in an open field in Jhinjhana area of UP’s Shamli district. The crime was done with “clinical precision”, and the culprits had left no “clue”.The murders stunned the locals, and puzzled the local police, which took a week to reach at the doors of the killers, which were not far off.Sonu’s call record led the police to 42-year-old Sudhir Kumar, a fellow villager and a district panchayat member. Married and father of two teenagers, Sudhir was having an affair with Sonu, police claimed on Thursday.Their call details spilled the beans. In between, they had made 1,600 calls to each other in the last four months.Superintendent of police (SP) Shamli, Ajay Kumar told TOI: “It was a peculiar case. Both mother and daughter were dead and there was no one else in the house who could provide us any information.”“Then, one of their distant relatives told us that Sonu had a phone,” he said, adding that they pulled out her call details and got the clue.“Initially, Sudhir flatly refused his involvement. But, during questioning, his close friend told us everything,” the SP said.SP Kumar told that Sonu was forcing Sudhir to leave her family to marry her. “Sudhir was not ready for this,” he said.Initially Sudhir even went into hiding to get rid of Sonu’s “advances”, police said. But, later, Sudhir, along with his associate Sunil Kumar, reached Sonu’s house in the early hours of January 3 and committed the murders. Both the accused were sent to jail on Thursday.
