Cops bust unit making electroni chips to rig weighing machines

Muzaffarnagar: In a major crackdown, city police, on Friday, raided many shops, godowns, weighing stations for heavy vehicles, etc. Earlier in 2017, as many as 6 petrol pumps across the city were found using tempered machines in Muzaffarnagar, during a nation-wide crackdown against petrol filling stations. The joint team of Crime Branch and Civil Line police raided several shops across the city and recovered 10 tempered scales as well. Police teams also seized dozens of machines from a godown which were to be supplied to various shops.Superintendent of police, Sudhir Kumar said, “Now we have launched a further investigation into the matter and are trying to find out how many electronic weighing machines with this chip, are being operated in the district. wherein several machines were found fitted with electronic chips to understate the real weight of consignments.Two accused Gaurav and Inam have been arrested while Adesh Thakur, told to be the mastermind of the activity, managed an escape from the spot, said the police.

We will get more information once the main accused is arrested.”Explaining the modus operandi to the media persons, accused Gaurav said, “We charge around Rs 4,000 to Rs 5,000 for installing a chip and also give a remote controller to the owner.” Owner of the machine can control it the way he wishes, he added.Department of legal metrology also have been told about the malpractice, said sources.
