First swine flu deaths reported in Meerut for 2019

Meerut: Swine flu claimed two lives in Meerut on Monday. We are continuously keeping a tab on the number of swine flu cases here and spreading awareness about the disease. She was four months pregnant and detected with swine flu only a week after being down with fever. The district of Meerut has reported 171 cases, the highest in the state. Epidemiological study and travel history of patients are being checked so that district surveillance can be done, health department authorities added.

Authorities say that most of the deaths occur in cases where the disease has been detected late.The dead include 25-year-old Suman, who was four months pregnant and Vineeta Kaushal who was being treated for swine flu at Fortis Hospital, Noida.“Suman, 25, a resident of Bhawanpur died in Delhi’s Guru Tegh Bahadur hospital. She was four months pregnant and detected with swine flu only a week after being down with fever. She had a major lung infection and was referred to Delhi after she was admitted for a day in Meerut hospital,” said Dr Raj Kumar, chief medical officer, Meerut.Vineeta Kaushal, 48, a resident of Kankerkhera did not get her sample checked at Meerut’s microbiology laboratory, so health department officials say that they do not details of her confirmed report report at the government laboratory.“On Monday, two more cases of swine flu were reported in Meerut taking the total number of cases here to 171. We are continuously keeping a tab on the number of swine flu cases here and spreading awareness about the disease. In fact, in a new set of advisory from the state government authorities, instructions have been given to ensure that only Category C patients are tested for the disease,” Kumar added.In order to control the situation, government officials are organising awareness camps in areas where cases have been reported. Epidemiological study and travel history of patients are being checked so that district surveillance can be done, health department authorities added.
