Meerut: Now, residents will no longer have to bring their vehicles to the Regional Transport Office on a stipulated date for its fitness check as the fitness certificate service will now be provided online in Meerut. The system was launched on Thursday. The initiative will help those seeking fitness certificates to come on a date slot of their choice by choosing it online. They will also be able to pay the fee for the fitness certificate online and fix the slot.Giving details, Vijay Kumar, Meerut regional transport officer, said, “Now, city residents seeking a fitness certificate for their vehicle will have to apply online, select a date slot of their choice, pay the fee online and bring their vehicle to the office for fitness check on the said date.”It should be noted that in April 2018, online based citizen-centric application Sarathi 4.0 system was started in Meerut after which operations like applying for a driving licence, vehicle registration, permit, taxation and others moved online. The application for the fitness certificate will add to the existing services which went online last year.“Unlike earlier times, when a date slot for inspection six days before the end of fitness duration was pre decided and printed on the fitness certificates, now the window for booking date slot for fitness certificates will open 45 days before expiry of existing fitness certificate,” said Kumar.This comes as a relief for those seeking fitness certificates for their vehicles.Two months ago, the Meerut Regional Transport Office decided to give a two-year fitness certificate to eight-year-old commercial vehicles as against the previous one-year norm.
