Tension prevails in Bijnor village over minor's gang-rape

Bijnor: Tension gripped a village under Seohara police station area after an accused wanted in connection with the alleged gang-rape of a minor girl was arrested on Saturday. The accused belongs to another community. A heavy police force and PAC personnel were deployed at the village to prevent any unprecedented incident with locals having attacked the residences of the alleged accused.According to police, a 16-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by two local youths on the night of March 12 when she was on way home after attending a music programme. Somehow, girl managed to reach home, where she fainted. After regaining consciousness, she narrated her ordeal to her family.Thereafter, her family approached police and filed a complaint. A case was registered against the accused under IPC sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 376d (where a woman is raped by one or more persons constituting a group or acting in furtherance of a common intention), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and provisions of POCSO Act. Her medical examination was carried out on March 13.Once villagers got wind of the incident, they along with the girl’s family members created a ruckus outside the houses of the alleged accused.Superintendent of police, rural, Vishvajeet Shrivastava visited the village and deployed a heavy police force and PAC to bring the situation under control. Police are camping at the village.Sanjeev Tyagi, SP, had formed five teams to arrest the accused. On Saturday, one of the accused was arrested. Tyagi told reporters, “Police are conducting raids at various places. The other culprits will be arrested soon. The situation is now normal at the village.”
