It took police a month to crack the case and on Monday, they named a local man, Farman, as the accused.According to police, Faizan went missing on February 9 on way home from a madrassa. When he did not return home, his father, Imamudin, a resident of Mohalla Imambada of Sherkot, searched for him but failed to find him. He filed a missing complaint at Sherkot police station. The next day, villagers found Faizan’s body stuffed in a plastic bag near a mosque. Police converted the case into one of murder against unidentified persons.During the course of investigations, police learnt on March 15 that Monu alias Farman was behind the murder. “Farman and the boy’s father, Imamuddin, had entered into a heated argument some time ago. Thereafter, Farman had been looking for an opportunity to settle scores. One day, Farman allegedly kidnapped 10-year-old Faizan and strangled him,” said Bijnor superintendent of police Sanjeev Tyagi.Once police learnt about Farman, they raided his house but the latter had already fled. Police announced a reward of Rs 5,000 for any information on Farman’s whereabouts.Addressing a press conference on Monday, SP Tyagi said, “Police have arrested Farman who allegedly killed the boy by strangling him. During interrogation, Farman confessed his crime and told police that he had a spat with Imamudin and also scuffled with him. He wanted to teach a lesson to Imamudin. Therefore, he kidnapped Faizan and took him to a spot near a mosque where he strangled him. After killing the boy, he stuffed his body in a plastic bag and threw it behind the mosque.”After committing the crime, Farman chose to remain in the city. When he realized that he was on police radar, he fled to avoid being grilled for the murder.
