UP releases Rs 98cr to electrify 46k schools-cum-polling stns

Meerut: Ahead of Lok Sabha elections, Rs 98.66 crore has been released to complete electrification of 46,981 state government schools across UP. The letter was issued to UP education director (basic).Giving details, Singh’s letter stated, “Out of the total amount, Rs 70.47 crore has to be used for electrical wiring such that Rs 15,000 per school is utilized. Instructions have been given to complete the electrification at these schools by March 30, 2019.

Instead of releasing the money directly into the bank accounts of the school managements concerned, the approved amount will have to be taken out of the treasury as per requirement.“I have been directed to inform you that in the backdrop of the Lok Sabha elections, instructions have been given by the Election Commission to ensure electricity at all the schools which will be function as polling stations. For this purpose, a total sum of Rs 98.66 crore has been approved,” read the letter issued by Anand Kumar Singh, UP special secretary. The letter was issued to UP education director (basic).Giving details, Singh’s letter stated, “Out of the total amount, Rs 70.47 crore has to be used for electrical wiring such that Rs 15,000 per school is utilized. Also, Rs 28.18 crore has to be used to install tubelights and fans such that each school gets Rs 6,000.”TOI had earlier reported how around 5,000 students are deprived of electricity in at least 113 primary and upper primary schools in Bijnor. Instructions have been given to complete the electrification at these schools by March 30, 2019.
