Instill fear of police in the minds of criminals: Commissioner

According to data from commissioner’s office, 20,966 crimes such as murders, robberies, rapes, thefts, etc took place in the Meerut zone alone from January 1, 2017 to June 30 2017. Meerut: In the crime-analysis meeting conducted on Tuesday, divisional commissioner Prabhat Kumar asked top cops to instill fear of police in the minds of criminals.“The rising crime is a matter of concern and is reflective of the fact that criminals do not fear police but this kind of situation cannot go on forever. However, when it comes to arrest of criminals with rewards on their heads, Meerut and Ghaziabad were way behind. Both citizens as well as criminals must feel the presence of police. Anti-land mafia cell has earmarked 5,454.47 hectares, and 1,682 land encroachers have been booked so far.

Both citizens as well as criminals must feel the presence of police. In the next review meeting no excuse will be permissible”, he said.He asked senior police officials to train SHOs on how to impose Gunda and Gangster Act on miscreants. According to data from commissioner’s office, 20,966 crimes such as murders, robberies, rapes, thefts, etc took place in the Meerut zone alone from January 1, 2017 to June 30 2017. The zone comprises Meerut, Bulandshahr, Hapur, Baghpat, Noida and Ghaziabad.Additional divisional commissioner RS Dhama, said, “During this period Gunda Act was imposed on 1,341 accused in various cases while Gangster Act was slapped on 125 others and one was booked under NSA.”Kumar added that Meerut and Bulandshahr lags behind in taking police measures against miscreants. However, when it comes to arrest of criminals with rewards on their heads, Meerut and Ghaziabad were way behind. He also gave special instructions to administrations of various districts to ensure the use of helmets by the commuters.Senior police officials and DMs of six districts of Meerut zone attended the event.Besides law and order, Kumar also directed officials to rid government land of mafia.
