Supporters of SP candidate, rebel clash at Syohara

Syohara municipality area of Bijnor witnessed violent clashes between supporters of a Samajwadi Party candidate and an SP leader who is contesting the civic polls as an independent. Police lodged a case against both candidates and their supporters on Tuesday. Four people have also been arrested.Polls are to be held on Wednesday.Unhappy after SP declared Naimulhasan as its candidate from Syohara for chairman’s post of nagar palika, former state party unit spokesman Faisal Varsi decided to contest as an independent.On Monday evening, supporters of both candidates came face to face and hurled stones at each other.Varsi alleged that supporters of SP candidate Naimulhasan were distributing liquor among voters. When his supporters objected, a scuffle broke out between his men and Naimulhasan supporters.On his part, Naimulhasan has filed a complaint alleging that Varsi’s supporters attacked his men and extorted money from them.Police have registered a case against both candidates and their supporters for violating code of conduct under relevant sections.
