Nepal releases Indian man whose meeting with relative led to clashes, death in firing: 10 points

The entire incident unfolded over Lagan Yadav trying to meet his daughter-in-law across the border, who is a native of Nepal.As clashes broke out on Friday afternoon near the Bihar border, the Nepalese border force opened fire on a crowd on Friday killing a 22-year-old Indian citizen and injured two others. The incident sparked tension on the Indo-Nepal Border along Bihar`s Sitamarhi district.

TOP DEVELOPMENTS FROM NEPAL CLASHES

1. Nepalese Armed Police Force (APF) had also detained 45-year-old Lagan Yadav after the incident. A day later, Lagan Yadav was released early on Saturday morning.

2. An Indian man was shot dead while three others suffered gun shot injuries on Friday after Nepal border police troops opened fire "deep inside Nepalese territory" adjoining Bihar`s Sitamarhi district.

3. While locals on Indian side claimed that the confrontation began when APF troops objected to the presence of Lagan Yadav`s daughter-in-law in their area after they saw her talking to some people from India. Lagan Yadav`s daughter-in-law is from Nepal.

4. The incident took place 75 metres inside the Nepalese territory, after the no man`s land between the two countries, when some women and Yadav were seen talking to the latter`s daughter-in-law. They were asked to return to the Indian side by the Nepalese APF who were patrolling the area.

5. The objection of APF personnel led to a heated argument and some more villagers joined Lagan Yadav from the Indian side, the SSB DG said. He said Yadav`s daughter-in-law is a Nepalese citizen and while some women were talking to her on the other side, Yadav and other men joined later.

6. The APF claimed that they first fired in the air to disperse the crowd and fearing snatching of their weapons, they later fired at the crowd in which three people got hit. The force said they fired 15 rounds, out of which 10 round, were pumped in the air.

7. Officials have said all those who have been injured in the fired received bullet injuries above the knee. The deceased has been identified as Vikesh Yadav (22) who was hit by a bullet in the abdomen area. He succumbed to his injuries. Two others were injured including Uday Thakur (24) and Umesh Ram (18), who have been admitted to a private hospital in Sitamarhi, which is around 85 kilometers from Bihar capital Patna.

8. Locals on both side of the Indo-Nepal border maintain relations and have families on either side as it is open and is not fenced. People move around to meet their family members, the officials said.

9. Nageshwar Rai, the father of the deceased, expressed grief and anguish on losing his son to bullet injury. He said, "Nepal`s security forces fired 15-16 rounds at unarmed villagers of Janakinagar, Sitamarhi, Bihar, killing Vikesh Rai and injuring two others."

10. The incident comes in the midst of a raging boundary row between the two countries with India sternly asking Nepal not to resort to any "artificial enlargement" of territorial claims after Kathmandu released a new political map laying claim over Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura.
