Kumar more-in Jipmer observed International Nurses Day with a lamp-lit pledge as a tribute to Florence Nightingale. This year, the International Council of Nurses (ICN) chose the theme, ‘Nurses A Voice to Lead – Health is a Human right’. The ICN’s concern is that world over, individuals and communities suffer from illness due to a lack of accessible and affordable health care, which is a basic human right. B. Vishnu Bhat, director, Jipmer, while inaugurating the celebration, emphasised the importance of nursing services in health care practice. ‘Primary care givers’ Nurses had more responsibilities than doctors in health care practice as they were the primary care givers to patients, he said and appreciated the nursing service of Jipmer. Dr. Bhat distributed certificates and honoured voluntary blood donors. Santhi Tamilmani, officer-in-charge, nursing department, M.J.E. Ambrosie, deputy medical superintendent, Dr. Anita Rustagi, additional medical superintendent, and Dr. S. Vivekanandam, medical superintendent (Ag), participated.
