Jipmer extends telemedicine services to New Zealand

Jipmer has now extended its telemedicine activities to include Auckland, New Zealand, said the Director of Jipmer, Dr. S. Vivekanandam. Jipmer has expanded the umbrella of its telemedicine consultation and knowledge sharing services to New Zealand. Online sessionDr. Kalayarasan, Associate Professor, Department of Surgical Gastroenterology, led an online session on ‘Minimally Invasive (Laparoscopy and Robotic) Gastrointestinal Surgery’. According to Dr. Vivekanandam, as a Regional Resource Centre (RRC) for telemedicine, for more than 160 medical colleges of South India, Jipmer had actively been collaborating telemedicine activities globally using National Knowledge Network (NKN). Jipmer already has telemedicine links with various countries such as the U.K., Australia, Italy, Japan, Korea, Morocco, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Nepal.

It was organised for the Department of Surgical Gastroenterology and Ophthalmology, using the Asia Pacific Advanced Network (APAN), said Dr. Ravi Kumar Chittoria, Registrar (Academic) and head of IT Wing and Telemedicine. Online session Dr. Kalayarasan, Associate Professor, Department of Surgical Gastroenterology, led an online session on ‘Minimally Invasive (Laparoscopy and Robotic) Gastrointestinal Surgery’. Residents and the faculty of various departments also participated in the scientific session. According to Dr. Vivekanandam, as a Regional Resource Centre (RRC) for telemedicine, for more than 160 medical colleges of South India, Jipmer had actively been collaborating telemedicine activities globally using National Knowledge Network (NKN).
