Most of the shops remained closed across Puducherry for the Bharath bandh called by the Congress party protesting the hike in fuel price. Most private schools and petrol pumps remained closed while markets and commercial establishments in parts of Puducherry were shut. Congress workers were seen roaming around the town on two-wheelers to enforce the bandh. Around 200 Youth Congress workers courted arrest near the New Bus Stand.
