Thirumavalavan wants PM to quit over bad loan mess

Thirumavalavan told presspersons here on Wednesday that the non-performing assets (NPAs) of the public sector banks had touched ?12 lakh crore. Mr. Thirumavalavan demanded the Puducherry Government to follow Tamil Nadu and consider the premature release of life convicts who had completed 10 years in jail. Clemency petitionReferring to the release of the seven convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, the VCK leader said the convicts had spent 25 years in jail. The Centre had not taken any action against the defaulters but those taking education and farm loans had been facing serious hardship, he said. The Supreme Court had ruled that Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit had the powers to pardon them and release them under Article 161 of the Constitution.

The report submitted to the committee was indicative of the failure of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in nabbing high-profile defaulters such as Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksi and Vijay Mallya he said.
