Officials pay homage at War memorial

On the French National Day, Consul General of France in Puducherry Phillipe Janvier Kamiyama, Puducherry District Collector Satyendra Singh Dursawat and Director General of Police S.K. Gautam paid tribute to war heroes at the Monument aux Morts (French War Memorial) National anthems of India and France were played and nearly 17 associations, including representatives of the French lower house from Puducherry and retired French Defence personnel placed wreaths. The day commemorates the storming of the Bastille Prison on July 14, 1789 that triggered the outbreak of the French revolution with the inspiring slogans of “liberty, equality and fraternity’. Puducherry, a former French colony, which has a sizeable number of French nationals is one of the few places in the country that celebrates the French National Day in a grandiose manner .
