Lakshminarayanan has criticised the conduct of the three leaders of the BJP nominated by the Union Government as members of the Legislative Assembly. He told reporters that when a public interest litigation challenging their appointment was pending in the High Court, the leaders were going to government offices introducing themselves as nominated MLAs. Mr. Lakshminarayanan said the Speaker too had rejected their request for facilities in the Assembly stating that there was no communication from competent authorities on the appointment of nominated members. The Congress leader said even the Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi, who had administered the oath, had left the issue to the judiciary. “Instead of waiting for the court verdict, the members are going to government offices introducing themselves as nominated members,” he said. MLA defends action Reacting to Congress charge, BJP local unit president V. Saminathan, who is one of the nominated members, of the Legislative Assembly, said the court had not stayed their appointment and hence they were well within their rights to carry on with the responsibilities. He said even when there was a court case challenging the election of working president of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam M.K. Stalin, he had performed his duties as a legislator. Mr. Saminathan said the nominated members would continue to take up issues concerning public irrespective of what the Congress believed.
