4 dengue deaths, 2,763 cases in Puducherry this year

The team later visited Indira Gandhi Government General Hospital and Postgraduate Institute, Krishna Nagar, Shanthi Nagar, Lawspet and Periyar Nagar. “We have been briefed with statistics and action taken by the States. After the field visits, the team met Chief Minister V.Narayanasamy and Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi later in the day.

Stating that the number of dengue cases in Puducherry and other southern States had increased when compared to last year, Kalpana Baruah, Joint Director, National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme, said the team was here to review the action taken by the government and to suggest preventive steps. “We have been briefed with statistics and action taken by the States. After the field visits, we will debrief the senior health officials and submit the report to the Centre,” she said. She added that medicines were not available till now for dengue fever. “Treatment is only symptomatic and the guidelines are already in place. The Union Health Minister has written to all the State chief ministers to take action. The government is consistently reviewing the work done to reduce transmission of dengue and also providing technical guidance,” she said. Chief Secretary Manoj Parida said the government had sought more financial assistance from the Centre. The team later visited Indira Gandhi Government General Hospital and Postgraduate Institute, Krishna Nagar, Shanthi Nagar, Lawspet and Periyar Nagar. After the field visits, the team met Chief Minister V.Narayanasamy and Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi later in the day.
