Bank account errors hold up scholarship for 2,400 students

PUNE: Errors made by school authorities or parents in the bank account details have led to deserving students missing the middle and high school scholarships for 2022 and 2023. Maharashtra State Examination Council which conducted the scholarship examination awarded scholarships to 4,642 students. Of these, as many as 1,380 students in Std V and 1,022 in Std VIII have incorrect bank account details, officials of the education department said. Students who pass Std V and Std VIII scholarship examinations each year receive a monthly amount for performing well in the exams. More than 2,400 students in Maharashtra have not received the amount in their bank accounts for the past few months because their schools have wrongly entered the bank details and the state education department has failed to rectify them.Meanwhile, officials in the education department said that the rectification work is ongoing and beneficiaries would receive the scholarships by November-end.The scholarship amount cannot be given to the students since their bank account details are incorrect, Anuradha Oak, commissioner of exam council, said.The schools have not yet submitted the information not only in 2022 but also in 2023. All schools are expected to take necessary action. However, schools have been delaying submitting the information. We have also told schools to send a report on the proceedings.
