Dighi garage owner loses 13L to online task fraud

Pune: A 29-year-old garage owner from Dighi lost Rs13 lakh to an online task fraud. It all began when an unknown woman, who posed as the executive of a digital agency, offered him handsome returns on his investments in some online tasks. Thereafter, between June 24 and June 30, the victim lost several lakh rupees to the crooks.The garage owner had filed a complaint application with the cybercrime cell of the Pimpri Chinchwad police.A case was registered with the Dighi police on Wednesday.An officer from the Dighi police said that in June this year, the garage owner first received a message from the woman, offering him the part-time job of completing online tasks and earning money. After the victim accepted the offer, the woman added him in a group on a mobile messenger app. He was then given a few tasks and some money was transferred to his account, the officer said.He added that later, the man was told to invest in prepaid tasks and earn a good commission. Over a week, the victim transferred Rs 13 lakh to different bank accounts and UPI IDs, the officer said.The victim realized he had been duped when he did not get any commission or even his invested amount back, the officer said.We also published the following articles recentlyState to form task force on air pollutionThe state health department in Pune, India, plans to form a five-member task force to address the issue of air pollution and its impact on public health.
