35-yr-old falls to death from third floor after scuffle

Pune: A 35-year-old grocery shop employee died of a grievous head injury after falling from the terrace of a third-floor flat at Sanjay Gandhi society in Wadgaonsheri around Sunday midnight following a scuffle between him and his friend.The friend was residing in the rented third-floor flat.The Chandannagar police identified the deceased as Baiju Laxmi Mandal and arrested his friend, Shambhu Ram (47), for murder.We have arrested Ram on the basis of an eyewitness statement recorded by the duos common friend, Santosh Ginalwad (32), who is also the complainant in the case, said senior inspector Rajendra Landge.Both Mandal and Ram, who is a cook at an eatery, moved to Pune four years ago from their native place in West Bengal. They were residing in separate flats in the same building, the officer said, adding that Ginalwad also stayed in another flat in the same building.Ginalwad said he and the family members of Ram and Mandal were partying on the terrace when a fight broke out between Ram and Mandal. The two started pushing each other against the terrace railing and before the other members could react, Ram pushed Mandal off the railings, Landge said.
