Pune: Shooter Bilal Tyagi and his aides — Honey Walmiki and Sagar Kumar — from Delhi had conducted a recce of Nakoda jewellers in Sayyadnagar twice before firing at the jeweller, Pratik Oswal (35), and robbing his bag containing cash and ornaments, collectively worth Rs1.1 lakh, on B T Kawade Road on November 8. Senior inspector Sanjay Patange of the Wanowrie police on Thursday said, Bilal, during custodial interrogation, told the police that he had twice visited the jewellery store on November 6 and 7 to conduct recce. He found the place safe for committing the robbery because it was not covered by CCTV cameras and no security guard was deployed unlike other jewellery stores in the city.He said, Bilal told us that the recce revealed that Pratik and his father Madanlal (71) daily carried cash and ornaments to their home in Mundhwa instead of keeping them in the store for security reasons. He found this as an opportunity to rob them because he wanted to settle the loan of Rs5.5 lakh he had taken from his friends and others around five years ago. Patange said, We have arrested the fourth suspect, Sarfaraz Shaikh, from Ramtekdi after the questioning of the three suspects revealed that he had stolen the motorbike and had given it to Bilal for committing the crime. The Pune police said Bilal had fired eight bullets, of which three hit Pratik. Honey had snatched the jewellers bag and Sagar was riding one of the bikes used in the crime. In another development related to the firing and robbery case, garbage vehicle driver Rafique Shaikh from Ghorpadi and Lakhan Ankoshi from Ramtekdi, taken into custody by the crime branch (unit V) on suspicion, have been released.
