Pune: PMC on Friday extended the deadline to fill up the mandatory PT3 form to avail 40% tax relief to November 30 for self-occupied properties in the traditional Pune civic areas and till January 30 next year for those in 34 merged areasThe Pune Municipal Corporation(PMC) received only around 79,000 PT3 forms till the earlier deadline of November 15.Around 2 lakh declarations about self-occupied properties are expected. The property owners should complete the formalities at the earliest. The submission of forms is mandatory to avail the tax benefit. The data about self-occupancy can be confirmed after getting the forms. This will help in allotting the discount to those who have received additional tax in bills as arrears, but not liable to it, said Ajit Deshmukh, head of PMCs property tax department.A tax discount of 40% for self-occupied properties was started in 1970, but was not notified as an act by state governments till the last decade. Auditors of the Union government declared the discount was illegal and it was scrapped in 2019.PMC had started recovering discounted amounts as arrears from 2021. After opposition from the public, the recovery drive was stopped. Considering the citizens opposition, the state cabinet in April 2023 reintroduced the discount. The notification was issued in July.Sudhir Kulkarni of Nagari Hakka Samiti, a citizens group, said, PMC has the manpower and infrastructure to cross-verify self-occupancy data. Citizens should not be made to run from pillar to post. Each self-occupied property owner will have to submit a PT3 form, no objection certificate from the society stating the owner occupies the property, identity proof and property tax bill of any other property owned by the same taxpayer in the PMC limits. We also published the following articles recentlyIndia votes against Israeli settlements in occupied territoryIndia has voted in favor of a resolution in the UN General Assembly condemning Israeli settlement activities in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
