AFMC to be given President’s Colour on December 1

Pune: President Droupadi Murmu will present the prestigious Presidents Colour to the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) on December 1 for the health services they have provided to the Indian armed forces over the last 75 years.The Presidents Colour, also known as Rashtrapati ka Nishaan, is the highest honour that can be bestowed upon any military unit.The event will be held at the Captain Devashish Sharma Kirti Chakra parade ground at AFMC in Wanowrie.One of the highlights of the ceremonial parade will be the lady medical officers, who will lead the four contingents of the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) personnel serving in the Army, Navy and Air Force. The President will release a special cover and stamp and a commemorative coin on the occasion.A release issued by AFMC through the Defence PRO stated, The college addresses the healthcare of military personnel and their families. The alumni too have made outstanding contributions in healthcare delivery and research and have served/are serving at various reputed national and international healthcare institutions. They requested an amendment to the constitution to increase the reservation beyond the current 50% cap. Raut stated that the issue cannot be solved by the state government and must be addressed by the center and Parliament. President Murmu assured them that she will look into the matter.
