Indian rock python tied to tree in Chincholi rescued

Pune: An Indian rock python tied to a tree by an unknown person in Chincholi area near Dehu Road was rescued by a team of Scales and Tales W.A.R Foundation. The 9ft python, weighing around 11kg, was taken to the RESQ charitable trust for treatment and was later released after it was kept under observation for two days.The python was tied with a rope to a coconut tree when the rescue team reached the spot.We received a call for help around 5.30pm on November 12 and our team went to the spot. We were informed by locals that a person, who had fled the spot, had tied the python to a tree around 2.30pm. Our team rescued the python and rushed it to a rehabilitation centre in Bhugaon for treatment. The forest department was also informed, Ritesh Sathe, president of Scales and Tales W.A.R Foundation, said.The snake needed immediate treatment, he added. If the team had reached late, it could have died as the rope was tied just below its head, cutting off itts air supply. It was still and some team members thought it would die, but timely treatment by the RESQ team saved it, Sathe said.The python was revived by our veterinary team by giving oxygen when it reached the RESQ centre. There were no physical injuries on its body but it was choking. After observing it for 24 hours, we found that it was well enough to move. We kept it under watch for another day and released it the next day, Nachiket Utpat from RESQ Charitable Trust said. Forest officials said they had received a call about the python and a rescue team went to the spot.
