Mental rehab facility for kids, teens in city

Pune: A dedicated rehabilitation facility called Raha was launched at the Jagruti Rehabilitation Centre to help children and adolescents deal with mental issues and behavioural problems.This facility, in Zagade Vasti on Pune-Solapur Road, will be run under the guidance of eminent child psychiatrist Dr Bhooshan Shukla.The centre will provide a safe and nurturing environment for children as well as teenagers to receive the necessary care and support to overcome challenges, such as aggression and violent behaviour, attention deficit, hyperactivity and behavioural disorders, anxiety, depression, substance abuse, social media, internet and gaming addictions, and other mental health issues. Various educational, music, drama and art-based therapy sessions will be conducted at the facility, apart from cognitive behavioural therapy, child-centric consultations and counselling.Shukla said, It is time to seek professional help when these issues negatively affect your wards day-to-day activities. The court also requested an action plan for the 94 disabled patients among them. Out of the 475 patients, 263 have been deemed fit for discharge by review boards. The court expressed concern over patients languishing in hospitals despite being cured or not seriously mentally ill. The SMHA has been given a target to rehabilitate at least 50 more patients by the next hearing date.
