Colleges slow to send data, scholarships get hampered

Pune: More than 4,000 students in Pune are bearing the brunt of the negligence shown by colleges regarding the submission of data on scholarships to the directorate of technical education. The scholars have received an eligibility certificate from the state government for reimbursement of their fees for admissions sought in various colleges for courses in the city.The joint director of education said that the colleges have been sent reminders to submit details of the students for a direct transfer of the scholarship to their accounts.Joint director of higher education in Pune division Keshav Tupe said, Colleges have been told that they should ensure that not a single deserving student misses out on scholarship, hence the data must be submitted without any errors.Students fill up scholarship forms after their admission to colleges on the Maha DBT portal. Once filed, their colleges approve the applications by checking the admission documents.Tupe said, The applications of students in some colleges have been pending since 2019-20. Colleges are expected to take action from time to time.He added that the scholarship is disbursed to students in instalments and until they get the first one, the next tranche is not deposited. Tupe added that applications of 779 students were pending for the first instalment and 3,322 applications were pending for the second.Student Sakshi Kale has complained to the education officials about her pending application. She said that she has been making the rounds of the colleges office as well as the directorate of technical educations office to see the status of her application. The only answer I get is that the application is in process.
