Patil, 3 others sent to Taloja jail in Sassoon MD haul case

Pune: Drug kingpin Lalit Patil and three other co-accused in the Rs2.14-crore mephedrone (MD) haul case at Sassoon hospital were sent to Taloja central jail after a special MCOCA court in the city on Friday ordered their judicial custody for 14 days.In the same case, special judge V R Kachare extended the custodial remand of co-accused Arvindkumar Lohare, Harishchandra Pant, Bhushan Patil and Imran Shaikh till November 29.The police said Lohare was the mastermind of the drug racket that Patil was running.Patil, who was arrested in October 2020 in a Rs20-crore MD drug haul at Chakan, had escaped on October 2 from the prisoners ward of Sassoon hospital where he was undergoing treatment since June this year for various ailments. The Mumbai police rearrested Patil from an eatery around 100km away from Bengaluru on October 17 in another drug haul case registered there on August 8 this year. The Pune police had secured Patils custody from the Taloja jail on October 31 in the Rs2.14 crore drug haul case, besides securing custody of the other co-accused from Mumbai. We are now in the process of securing Patils custody again from the Taloja jail in relation to the October 2 escape case,DCP (Crime) Amol Zende told TOI. We have already secured a production warrant from the special court, he added. Earlier, investigating officer ACP (crime) Sunil Tambe and his team produced Patil and seven other co-accused in the October 1 drug haul case before the court at the end of their custodial remand on Friday.Tambe said, We told the court that a further custodial interrogation of Lohare, Pant, Bhushan and Imran was essential. We have secured details of their bank accounts and call detail records to collect evidence. He said, We have established a chain of the 13 accused to show their involvement in the crime. The case involves an educational trust run by his wife under PMLA. The CBI court observed that Lal Singh is not cooperating and his statements are yet to be recorded. The accused has been remanded in judicial custody from November 18 to December 1. Lal Singh will be lodged at Amphalla jail in Jammu and undergo regular medical check-ups.
