Adventure camp to be held in Lonavla this December for children with special needs

Pune: Jyoti Nair, a resident of Wadgaon Sheri, has been beaming with pride as she packs a bag to send her daughter with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) off on an adventure, alongside many other children with special abilities. Her daughter is headed to a campsite, where she is looking forward to hanging out with friends around a bonfire, the mother shared.The opportunity also gives caregivers a chance to meet and share their experiences. It gives us a non-judgmental environment, where everyone understands each other. The instructors are well-trained and sensitive when dealing with special children. said Nair, who had attended this camp since 2018. The camp invites children with ASD, besides other other special abilities.Participating children will be under the supervision of experts, who will guide them during adventurous activities like swimming, balancing on a Burma bridge, kayaking, zip-lining, rappelling, etc. Several parents will accompany their kids to the camp. Teachers will also be present to monitor and guide students.Providing special children with a platform to learn through play, city-based special educator Padma Ramani has been organising adventure camps around World Disability Day, observed on December 3. The camp not only encourages children to step out of their comfort zone, but also helps in building their interpersonal skills, communication and independence.Ramani shared, We used to organize this camp in Kerala annually. However, many parents from Maharashtra sought a camp nearer to their home. Now, for the past seven years — except for two years during the pandemic — we have been organizing it in Lonavla. Furthermore, they successfully reunited a missing child with his parents at Baga beach.Bihar govt to launch special programme for 25 lakh academically weak school childrenThe Bihar government will launch Mission Daksh in December to address the academic performance of academically weak students in government schools. The program aims to mentor nearly 25 lakh children who are lagging behind their peers, some of whom are unable to read simple Hindi words despite being in upper primary classes. Teachers will conduct extra classes in small groups of not more than five students to provide individualized attention and bridge learning gaps. The program will be closely monitored by district-wise committees headed by district magistrates.Bihar govt to launch special programme for 25 lakh academically weak school childrenBihar government to launch Mission Daksh in December to mentor academically weak students in government schools. Additional Chief Secretary of Education has directed teachers to conduct extra classes for these students. All 25 lakh weak students will appear in final exams in April 2024. Strict action will be taken against headmasters/principals and teachers if students fail exams. Bihar government has been implementing measures to improve the quality of education in the state.
