Cash, jewellery worth ₹32 lakh stolen from builder’s home

Pune: Gold and diamond ornaments collectively worth Rs 23.5 lakh and Rs 9 lakh in cash were burgled from the bungalow of a builder at Ashoknagar locality in Bhosale Nagar on Range Hills Road.The theft occurred sometime between 10.30pm on Saturday and 12.30pm on Sunday, when the culprits entered the bungalow of builder Deepak Jagtap (52) by breaking a sliding window of the kitchen. They proceeded to one of the bedrooms on the second floor and broke open a wardrobe, which had two lockers containing the cash and jewellery that they stole, the Chatushrungi police said.Incidentally, Jagtap and his family were sleeping in their third-floor bedroom while a security guard was manning the front of the bungalow. Jagtap also has a pet dog, but the dog didnt bark either.When contacted, Jagtap told TOI, The theft came to light when one of my domestic staff found the wardrobe door broken. I was sleeping in the third floor bedroom. My parents, who have gone to Srirampur in Ahmednagar district, usually sleep in the second floor bedroom. I feel the burglary was well-planned as the intruders did not touch any other articles in the bungalow.Assistant inspector Ravindra Patil said, CCTV footage shows two men scaling the compound wall of the bungalow in the rear and entering the kitchen after breaking the sliding window. We are analyzing footage in Ashoknagar locality and nearby localities to establish the trail of the burglars before and after the crime.
