Pune: The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority has proposed a skyway to connect the Hinjewadi Metro station to various companies in the IT hub for last-mile connectivity.Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) officials said on Wednesday that the authority has tied up with a private company to construct the skyways pilot test track of 2.5km — to be completed in a years time.The string rail track structure will connect the Hinjewadi Metro station to IT companies in the hub and will have three stations. Later, the track will cover 10 km.PMRDA officials said the framework agreement in this regard has been signed between the authority and the private company. A 2.5km test track will be developed in the first phase, according to the plan. It will start at the Hinjewadi Phase II circle and pass from the MIDC hill service reservoir to Mannara technologies private limited. It will then turn left on the circle and go on to connect to a few other companies. The pilot project will comprise constructing a string rail track structure of the overpass type along with three stations for passenger to board and alight, said senior PMRDA officials.The authority also confirmed that after receipt of safety approvals, the full track of about 10 km shall be proposed. The entire cost of the development will be borne by the private entity. Last-mile connectivity to software firms in the IT hub is the focus while completing the Hinjewadi-Wakad stretch.The proposal also includes walkways to allow employees of these IT companies to directly access the mass transit system., similar to what MMRDA is planning.The entire 23km Metro line III from Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar is being carried out in the PPP basis and is expected to commence operations from April 2025.PMRDA chief engineer Rinaj Pathan said that as on October 31, around 50% work of the Metro line III was complete. On November 25, it was two years since the concessionaire was appointed.
