Military school background binds toppers at passing out parade

Pune: A background of training at military schools binds the toppers at the passing out parade of the 145th course from the National Defence Academy (NDA).In fact, the Presidents gold medal winner, cadet Pratham Singh, and bronze medal winner, cadet HS Bhonsle, are classmates from the Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC) in Dehradun. Silver medalist, cadet Jatin Kumar, studied at the Sainik School Kunjpura in Haryana.I will forever cherish the memories of my three years at the NDA, said Pratham Singh, who plans to join the infantry arm of the Indian Army after completing his one-year training at the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun.I will take ahead the military legacy of my family, he added. Prathams grandfather Lt Col Tirth Singh (retd), is a Vir Chakra awardee of the 1971 Indo-Pak War; his mother, Colonel Anuvandana Jaggi, accompanied him to the grand event.Retired soldier Kisan Singh was brimming with pride as he stood alongside his son Jatin Kumar. Jatin was determined since his childhood to pursue a career in the Army and always dreamt of joining the NDA. He has made us proud by also winning the prestigious silver medal, said Singh.Jatin said,, During the three years of my training, I learnt how to work as a team. For instance, during a night camp, a cadet from my squadron faced difficulties completing a long run. We ensured that we take him with us all the way.HS Bhonsle was inspired by his uncle, who retired as an Air Marshal from the Indian Air Force. I am happy that I could complete the training. My dream is to command an Indian naval ship, he said.Bhonsles father, Shailesh, a cashier with a cooperative bank in Kolhapur, said, He was brilliant in studies. It was his dream to join the RIMC and NDA. We never stopped him or advised him to pursue other career options. Today he has made us proud.Commemorative coin, stamp releasedPresident Droupadi Murmu released a commemorative coin, postal stamp and first-day cover of NDA as part of 75 years of NDA. The coin is of Rs 75 denomination, issued by the Govt of India Mint, Hyderabad. The stamp is of Rs 5 denomination.
