Pune: Union minister Narayan Rane criticized Maratha activist Manoj Jarange (below) on Thursday, saying the latter doesnt have knowledge about caste-based reservation, adding that he should first study how such quota is given before making any demands.Rane was in Pune to attend a function to distribute appointment letters to new recruits to the government jobs across 37 locations in the country. The event was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi via video conference. Rane interacted with the media on the sidelines.Replying to a question about Jaranges demands, Rane said, Who is he? What study has he done about reservation? He is too small to speak on the issue and lacks knowledge on this topic. He added, Jarange needs to do some study of the entire reservation issue. He needs to first understand the constitutional provisions for reservations.Rane was the chairman of the special committee to study the Maratha reservation issue nearly a decade ago. After the submission of this committees report, the state government had announced 16 percent reservation for the Maratha community at the time.He said, However, we did not snatch it from the OBC quota. Now, since Jarange is demanding the reservation as OBC quota, he should first ask the Maratha community if they want it as OBCs. I am sure that no Maratha will agree to get reservation through the OBC category. We also published the following articles recentlyNCP leader threatens protests like Marathas and Dhangars if Muslims not given 5% reservationNCP leader Saleem Sarang warns that the Muslim community may protest like the Marathas and Dhangars if the government does not restore the 5% quota in education.
