Bank staffer duped of 21L on promise of job for his son

Pune: A man, claiming to have been in contacts with senior officers of the civic body duped a 42-year-old peon working in a co-operative bank of Rs21 lakh since July 2014 on the pretext of helping the victims brother in securing a job in PMC. As per police, the peons brother works in a private firm and was looking for a permanent job in the government sector. The peon came in contact with the fraudster through a known person. The fraudster claimed that his wife worked with PMC and that he would use her influence to help secure a clerical job for his brother. The peon paid Rs21 lakh through cash and online transactions, but the man failed to secure a job, said sub-inspector Punam Patil from the Vishrambaug police station. The officer said the fraudster avoided repaying the money to the victim. The peon then filed a complaint application, she said.The victim furnished evidence relating to the payments made to police after a preliminary inquiry. The fraudster, who turned up before the inquiry officer, claimed that he had repaid the money, but could not furnish evidence. We then took a call to register a complaint relating to cheating under the Indian Penal Code. Senior inspector Ajay Bhosale confirms the arrest and mentions that the accused is in police custody till December 5. The accused allegedly befriended the girl, raped her multiple times, resulting in her pregnancy. The victim, whose identity remains confidential, hanged herself at home on November 28.
