89-yr-old man falls to death from bldg loft

Pune: An 89-year-old man died after falling from a loft between the fourth and fifth floors of a residential building in Mayur Colony, Kothrud, around 12.30 pm on Sunday.Senior inspector Hemant Patil of the Kothrud police said, We found his chappal and walking stick near the loft, adjacent to the lifts duct. He left a note stating that he was ending his life owing to his illnesses.Two of his sons are based in the US, while another one is in Mumbai. We have informed them about his demise.The deceased stayed alone in the flat with a caretaker looking after him, Around noon, the caretaker to get lunchboxes for them. Before he returned, the elderly man died by suicide. He fell in the parking area and the watchman raised an alarm, he said, adding, We have registered a case of accidental death in this regard. The man, Baset alias Barsa Murmu, was anxious for his sons safety and died of a heart attack. His son, Bhaktu, along with 40 other workers, was trapped in the Silkyara tunnel in Uttarakhand. The workers were later rescued and are now recuperating at AIIMS Rishikesh.
