Chhattisgarh Congress chief Deepak Baij on Friday termed the notice served to his party by the Income Tax department an act of "dictatorship" of the Modi government. The Congress was served a notice of over Rs 1,800 crore by the Income Tax Department after the Delhi High Court rejected the partys plea against tax reassessment proceedings. The notice has been served to it for the assessment years 2017-18 and 2020-21, and includes penalty and interest. Meanwhile, Baij accused the BJP of indulging in "tax terrorism" to financially cripple the opposition party ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. He alleged that through the "electoral bonds scam", BJP had collected Rs 8,200 crore and used the route of "pre-paid, post-paid, post-raid bribes and shell companies". "Efforts are being made to financially cripple the Congress, but we are not going to be cowed down, he said.
