Three Maoists surrender in Dantewada

Three Maoists, one of them carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head, surrendered on Friday to security forces in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh. Munna Bhogam alias Bhunjwa (37), Ramesh Bhogam (30) and Bhima Kuhdam alias Avinash Korram (26) turned themselves in, citing disappointment with the Maoist ideology, Dantewada Superintendent of Police Gaurav Rai said. Bhunjwa, who carried the bounty, was the president of the Pittepal Panchayat Dandakaranya Adivasi Kisan Majdoor Sangh under the Bhairamgarh Area Committee of the outlawed Maoist organization. Ramesh Bhogam was a Chetna Natya Mandali (CNM) member. Kuhdam was a member of the Rewali Panchayat Jantana Sarkar under the Malanger Area Committee of the outlawed Maoist group. So far, 685 Naxalites, including 174 carrying cash rewards, have quit violence in the district since June 2020.
